About VaSupportCalc Project

Over a decade ago, this project was started to make standard child and spousal support calculators available to everyone at no cost.

VaSupportCalc will stay around as long as it can be a breakeven project. That means it is totally dependent on support from you and from clicking on ads on the pages that interest you. Please support our ad sponsors and consider making a donation so we can keep this alive!

First, Child Support

Our cornerstone project was making the Virginia Child Support Guideline calculators available. First, we did online calculators available with any browser. The calculators were enhanced to allow “Non-monthly” input so you can enter information into the various fields using monthly amounts or any periodic amounts you can think of such as annual, quarterly, semi-monthly, bi-weekly, etc.

What was really important was to be sure the calculations are accurate (not just close!) so they could be relied on by parents, mediators, lawyers, and courts. And the printouts from the calculators ARE in fact used throughout Virginia.

Equally important has been to provide these calculations at NO COST to parents, mediators, lawyers, and courts. If you have a browser and Internet access, the calculators are accessible. And you can send the results to up to 3 email addresses.

In 2018, the Virginia General Assembly made changes to the child support statutes to account for combinations of parenting arrangements that had not been addressed earlier. So in 2018, we created a “Unified” input form that covered these variations. The Unified form produces the “old” DC-637, DC-638, and DC-640 forms if the parenting arrangement still applied, but when the parenting arrangement fell outside the 3 older forms, we created a “Unified” form that covered those new situations as well. Users and courts looking for the “old” forms can still get them in the familiar format while the legislated changes could also be visualized when needed.

If you don’t have Internet access as some of our users discovered when they were in court, we created an Android app and an Apple app so you can do the calculations offline. Look for them in the Android store and in the Apple App Store! Next, Spousal Support

Shortly after the Child Support calculations were addressed, we developed an online pendente lite spousal support calculator. We’ve tried to be careful about warning users about when the spousal support calculator might or might not be relevant.

And then phone/tablet applications for pendente lite support calculations available through the Apple iTunes Store and the Google Play Store.

Support Arrearage Calculator

At the end of 2019, we completed an online Support Arrearage Calculator. Some courts have become very reliant on these calculations though we must admit we’re still waiting to get more feedback on the calculations.

West Virginia Child Support Calculator

In 2024, we created a new child support calculator for West Virginia. Again, we’re committed to keeping this available at no cost to parents, lawyers, mediators, and courts in West Virginia, at least for as long as we can. You can find that calculator here.
